ool to Optimize the Total Environmental Impact of Materials (TOTEM) is a transparent, digital interface that allows you to objectively calculate and reduce the environmental impact of your building.

The tool provides information about the impact of the various components in your building, the life cycle phases, and the environmental impact indicators. TOTEM offers all actors in the Belgian construction sector (architects, engineering firms, contractors, developers, public authorities, etc.) the opportunity to identify and limit the environmental impact of buildings, starting from the design phase.

This tool is supported by the three regions: Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels, and has been online since 2018. The tool is continuously updated and further developed. Since October 2020, TOTEM has been linked to the federal B-EPD database.

D-studio has been working on Totem and other related projects for OVAM for some time now.

D-studio provides BIM support for Totem by setting up, documenting, and testing improved IFC mapping and export configuration, including a reference implementation. Workshops were also organized, several presentations were given, and a webinar was recorded in collaboration with NAV.
