Jessa hospital in Hasselt
This is a new construction project for Jessa Hospital in Hasselt. Approximately 135,000 m², plus parking, with a construction budget of +/- €267 million.
The new unified campus will be located in the center of the Salvator Plus site and will house the three current healthcare campuses (Virga Jessa campus, Salvator campus, and Sint-Ursula campus). To limit the spatial footprint, an 18-story “Park Tower” will be built. This part of the building is intended for patients who are only admitted to the hospital for a short period of time. In addition, there will be a lower ‘Park Wing’, interwoven with the green park environment, for patients who need to be in hospital for longer periods or frequently (such as psychiatry, rehabilitation or dialysis and part of geriatrics). The consultation and outpatient care services will also be housed in this wing. The interaction with the green park plays a crucial role for the users of this park wing. This green lung in the city is not only accessible to patients and visitors but also to the residents of Hasselt. Medical-technical services, such as medical imaging, intensive care, operating rooms, emergency services, etc., are located in the ‘Foot of the Tower’. The Hub forms the logistical heart of the campus, with the warehouse, central kitchen, pharmacy, and clean room. The Hub is connected to the rest of the building above and under ground.
challenges
- A major challenge within this project is the simultaneous use of various software packages within the same design team (Vectorworks, Revit, etc.). This makes consistent and error-free coordination more complex, especially since models are exchanged via IFC files exported from different platforms. Ensuring correct, uniform, and reliable IFC coordination is therefore a crucial focus in the design process.
bim methodology
The implementation of BIM in projects requires a specific approach. Our BIM team has extensive expertise and experience in Belgian and European projects with international players. D-studio acts as BIM and information manager and BIM coordinator for project organizations or as BIM consultant for companies. We are always guided by international standards and best practices, but tailor them to the project and the parties involved. Our strengths:

D-studio carries out a full BIM Management mission throughout the entire project cycle and partial BIM coordination mission on behalf of TM Osar – Robbrecht en Daem.
In accordance with the Belgian BIM standards and ISO 19650, such as:
- BIM strategy and maturity analysis
- BIM Protocol and EIR definition
- BIM Implementation Plan for the study phase
- Follow-up on spatial coordination, clash detection, and health checks (study phase)
- Validation and verification of models during the implementation phase via health checks and limited clash detection (follow-up by implementation team)
- Definition of BIM operation in consultation with the client
