Renovation of the iconic Postpalast building (noteworthy: location of the very first BIM World conference) and partial new construction on a historic site in downtown Munich – the historic Arnulfpost site (“Postpalast”), into a new office for Google. Total gross area is 55K sqm of which 30K sqm are net offices and 5K sqm outdoor space.
Challenges
- Realignment of the project just before the implementation phase, redefining the program based on customized needs.
- Different BIM knowledge of partners, with many parties without extensive BIM experience
- Complexity: combination of a renovation project of an iconic building complemented by a challenging new construction program
- Overlapping trajectories for structural work (base build) and finishing (fitout)
- Complex management and communication structure with multiple parties involved
D-studio, in cooperation with AEC3 (Munich), assumes the role of BIM information manager and also part of the BIM coordination tasks. Appointed by the client, our team guides and supports the design and execution teams regarding the BIM methodology and the associated technology. The whole process is strictly in accordance with ISO 19650.
Project management is in the hands of Turner and Towsend, Germany, Munich.
